Heartburn or acid reflux, also known as gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), occurs when acid flows back into your esophagus causing irritation and a burning pain in the chest. When many people see headstands or deep backbends that so often characterize yoga poses, they would think that these poses would cause more pain, not relieve it.
